Today June 20th 2025, the Government of New Brunswick announced the launch of an Alternative School Calendar Project that will increase professional learning opportunities for teachers during the school year. This is a product of the collaborative work between the School Districts, the Department of Education, and the New Brunswick Teachers Association. We are pleased to share that 11 schools in the Anglophone East School District will be the first group of our schools to participate in this initiative beginning in September 2025.

The following schools will follow an adjusted calendar that includes two professional development (PD) days per month:

• Harrison Trimble High School
• Queen Elizabeth School
• Beaverbrook School
• Magnetic Hill School
• Birchmount School
• Maplehurst School
• Northrop Frye School
• Havelock School
• Petitcodiac Regional School
• Salisbury Elementary School
• Salisbury Regional School

This project is designed to provide all education staff with more frequent opportunities to collaborate, examine student progress, and refine classroom strategies to support student success. Research shows that ongoing, high-quality professional learning directly benefits student achievement, particularly in the areas of literacy, numeracy, and overall school experience. This work will be in alignment with our District Improvement Plan and the individual School Improvement Plans.

We know this model will benefit both students and staff by creating more connected and supportive learning environments.

The 2025-2026 calendars have been added to our website. The schools participating in the Alternative School Calendar Project are identified at the top of their calendar. I would like to extend my profound thanks and gratitude our Minister of Education, the Honourable Claire Johnson, for her forward thinking, future-focused leadership, and for her collaboration and support in bringing this important initiative from theory to practice.

I also sincerely thank our District Education Council for their guidance, leadership, and support throughout this process. Thank you to all our principals, staff, and Parent School Support Committees (PSSCs) from across the district for their collaboration, contributions, and dedication to supporting the work over the past two years. Your input has been vital in helping shape a model that supports both staff and student success.

I thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to invest in the success of every student in Anglophone East. If you have any questions, please contact my office at any time.

Sincerely,

Randolph J. MacLEAN Superintendent & CEO Anglophone East School District
